Lead Process/Mechanical Engineer

Job Description & Requirements

Provide mechanical design for oil and gas transportation and processing facilities.
 
Minimum Qualifications:


  • This position requires BS Degree in a related Engineering discipline from an accredited College/University, and related course work with eight years previous experience required.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desired.
  • Mechanical Engineer I or II - 5 to 10 years experience, working in engineering and design of oil and gas facilities, construction optimization and maintenance, capable of working in a fast paced environment.
  • Primary responsibilities include working with process group on equipment sizing, mechanical equipment design, PFD/P&ID's, sizing pumps, exchangers, experience with Caesar II pipe stress analysis. 
  • Other responsibilities include reviewing of pipe specifications, tie point list and line list.
  • Development Process control documentation to include Cause/Effect Chart and control narratives.
  • Experience in Hydraulic, Transient/Surge Analysis is required.


 Overall Summary: 


  • Level 1 or 2 position for the engineering discipline.
  • Minimal supervision is responsible for independently applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods.
  • Provide technical guidance to experienced drafters/designer and engineers.
  • Requires extensive progressive experience in general engineering.
  • Performs any other tasks or duties as assigned by supervision, including work at higher or lower levels as needed.

  
Essential Job Duties and Functions: 


  • Perform job duties independently.
  • Will function as discipline lead on projects.
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, codes, and procedures for their discipline.
  • Can write discipline scope of work for projects and proposals.
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of commonly-used engineering concepts, practices, codes, and procedures. Previous experience with B31-3, B31-4, B31-7 and B31-8.  Extensive experience with Part 49 CFR, Part 195/Part 192.
  • Can execute assigned work without the need of direct supervision.
  • Generally functions as the discipline lead on a project; specifies mechanical equipment, ensures technical accuracy, tracks schedule & budget, initiates and tracks engineering changes relative to the project scope of work and represents the discipline at project meetings.
  • Participates in developing the scope and/or design criteria for proposals; may require light to moderate field time, and providing mechanical engineering man-hour estimates for proposals or as otherwise needed.
  • Participates in inter-discipline, project related activities such as process reviews, drawing reviews and equipment reviews, as necessary to support proposal or project efforts.
  • Be a source of technical information for junior Mechanical & Process Engineers.
  • Can provide direct execution or technical direction in the application of pipe stress analysis, heat exchanger and tank/pressure vessel design &/or evaluation, utilizing in-house software such as Caesar II, HYSYS, Pipe Flo and Compress, and good engineering practices.


 Key Responsibilities: 


  • Develop mechanical design deliverables such as materials specifications
  • Extensive experience with P&ID’s, Hydro testing, pipes, valves and fittings for pipelines
  • Previous experience working with piping components
  • Understand and have previously worked with ASME standards
  • Perform sizing, selection, and specification.
  • Prepare cost and resource estimates.
  • Evaluate equipment and construction bids.
  • Interface as necessary with Company engineering and project management, drafting, purchasing, as well as outside consultant engineering firms, inspection, and operations personnel.
  • Provide input toward the continuous improvement of Company engineering standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with a wide range of technical, analytical and managerial personnel.
  • Willing to travel to the job site and meet with clients and construction personnel as necessary to scope the project and collect information for design.
  • Experienced in handling multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to read, understand control schematics and develop P&IDs and PFD's
