Process Engineer

Job Summary:
 

The Process Engineer for this position is responsible for development of process design parameters including design concept, criteria, equipment specifications, code interpretations, equipment design, calculations, and selections.  The Engineer is also responsible for developing the technical deliverables required for industrial process systems, as well as the overall system design for industrial facilities in one or more of the following areas, gas treating, oil and gas, liquid material handling.
 

Process Engineer I or II with 3-7 years of experience, working in oil and gas pipeline and facilities, construction optimization, maintenance and capable of working in a fast paced environment.  


Primary responsibilities include creating and updating P&ID's, creating process simulations (HYSYS and Pipe-Flo or similar), other responsibilities include specification sheets for process equipment.
 

Job Responsibilities:


  • Timely and accurate communication with clients, management and co-workers
  • Know and understand the specific scope of work, design criteria, and project standards
  • Participate in weekly calls as requested to verify scope and information
  • Completing technical portions of a project, not just tasks
  • Direct drafters, designers and other engineers to complete tasks
  • Preparing and maintaining calculations as required by the project plan for submittals for applicable permits or client review
  • Interface through Discipline or Team Lead for details within Engineer’s to obtain necessary information in a timely manner
  • Check work received from Designers/Drafters for correctness and quality
  • Verify that the work meets project standards
  • Verify Designers/Drafters working under Engineer are following QA/QC standards
  • Sign-off and check prints as required by project QA plan
  • Understand hours required for tasks and clearly express to all staff working under Engineer
  • Ensure all engineering tasks are on budget and on schedule
  • Proactively communicate any concerns, problems, or technical decisions that impact the project (i.e. Layouts, budget, or other disciplines)


Job Qualifications and Required Experience:


  • General understanding of all engineering disciplines
  • Able to identify and analyze problems and implement solutions
  • Strong understanding of systems and mechanical and/or chemical engineering practices and processes
  • Process Design for tanking, blending and chemical processes
  • Hydraulic pipe sizing for industrial facilities
  • Experience conducting Transient/Surge analysis of pipelines and facilities preferred.
  • Developing process parameters including mass flow, heat transfer, material balance capacities and rates
  • HYSYS or other analysis simulation software
  • Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Sessions
  • Developing system design including PFD, PID, Layouts and Specifications
  • Developing “not to exceed” horse powers, basic process data and preliminary information
  • Identifying key process and system data
  • Selecting equipment such as process units and instruments
  • Developing industry specific calculations for systems such as chemical balance, pipe flow rates, compression, maximum intended inventory, over pressure protection
  • Experience interfacing with the mechanical, structural and electrical engineers
  • Management of key design basis documents
  • General understanding of ANSI and NFPA
  • Perform construction cost estimates for industrial installations including quantity development
  • Develop sizing information for process Equipment (compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, separators, reactors, etc.) and provide information in the form of equipment data sheets
  • Prepare material selection designation (diagram) for plant requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with line lists, equipment list, and initial instrument list
  • Develop logic diagrams and cause and effect charts for the facility
  • Flare systems analysis and final reporting including the sizing of the relief valve inlet and outlet line sizing
  • Experience in one of the following industries:liquid material handling, gas treating, oil and gas, and petrochemical.


Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience preferred
